2026–2027 National JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics Program
The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is proud to announce the launch of its yearly, 2026–2027 National JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics Program, beginning August 20, 2026.
This prestigious program honors exceptional cadets in grades 9–12, including homeschool students, who are enrolled in U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard JROTC programs throughout the United States and overseas.
Program Highlights
• Recognizes academic excellence among JROTC cadets
• Open to students in grades 9–12, including homeschool participants
• Available to all branches of JROTC nationwide and abroad
• Includes an optional essay contest component
Due to overwhelming interest and participation, the Essay Contest component returns this year for additional recognition! During the previous program cycle, more than 300 cadets were nominated (essay not required), with four cadets receiving special recognition for outstanding essay submissions.
Our Mission
The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to:
• Inspiring youth toward Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers to help develop the American workforce critical to the strength of our nation’s economy and ultimately America’s freedom.
• Providing military veterans—who serve as subject matter experts in the Foundation’s STEM Education and Workforce Development Outreach Program—with continued purpose through meaningful mentorship, education, and community engagement opportunities.
The JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics Program directly supports this mission by encouraging academic achievement, leadership development, discipline, and future workforce readiness among America’s youth.
Nomination Information
JROTC instructors may nominate one or more cadets who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and exemplary leadership qualities. Multiple nominations are encouraged when warranted.
Nomination Fees
• $20 for a single nomination
• $15 per cadet for two or more nominations
Each nomination includes:
• An official award ribbon
• A high-quality, presentation-ready certificate suitable for framing
Cadet Eligibility Requirements
Cadets nominated for this award should demonstrate the following qualifications and characteristics:
• Outstanding personal appearance, including proper uniform wear and grooming standards
• Personal attributes such as initiative, judgment, and self-confidence
• A courteous demeanor, including promptness, obedience, and respect for customs and traditions
• Growth potential, including responsibility, productivity, and adaptability
• The highest personal and ethical standards with strong positive convictions
• The potential and desire to pursue a military career
• Academic excellence, including:
o Ranking in the top 5% of their Aerospace Science/JROTC class with an “A” average or equivalent numerical standing
o Ranking in the top 15% of their overall academic class
• A consistently positive attitude toward both JROTC and school

Additional Recognition Opportunities
The Celebrate Freedom Foundation is proud to continue its highly successful Essay Contest component as part of the JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics Program.
For the 2026–2027 program year, the Blue Star Mothers of South Carolina will once again evaluate 450-word essays submitted by cadets no later than May 1, 2027.
This year’s essay topic is:
“Technology, Leadership, and Decision-Making in Modern Warfare.”
A panel of judges will select three cadets who have written the most outstanding essays to receive the JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics with “Distinction.”
From those selected essays, one cadet will be chosen to receive the Celebrate Freedom Foundation Award with “Highest Distinction” for submitting the top overall essay.
At the judges’ discretion, additional cadets may also receive the Award with “Merit” for exceptional essay submissions
Won with Highest Distinction designation on certificate and Large Goldstar device for ribbon
Won with Distinction designation on certificate and Small Silver star device for ribbon
Won with Merit designation on certificate, and
Small bronze star device for ribbon
Winners will be announced by May 31, 2027.
(Updated Certificates and the “Distinction Star” award will be mailed during this time)
Nominations MUST be submitted no later than May 15,2026. Nominations also will be confirmed by e-mail AFTER forms and fees have been received. Incomplete nomination forms will be rejected, and fees refunded.
CFF will mail the certificate and ribbons at our earliest convivence.
